Lexus India has announced a temporary suspension of bookings for its flagship luxury MPV, the LM 350h, effective September 21, 2024. This decision comes in response to overwhelming demand and ongoing supply chain challenges that have made it difficult for the company to fulfill existing orders.
Reasons for the Suspension
The LM 350h, which was launched in India in March 2024, has rapidly gained popularity in the luxury MPV segment, attracting attention for its innovative design and advanced hybrid technology. With an ex-showroom price starting at ₹2 crore and the high-end four-seater lounge variant priced at ₹2.50 crore, it has positioned itself as the most expensive MPV in the Indian market, even surpassing its sibling model, the Toyota Vellfire.
Due to the high demand and limited supply, Lexus India has decided to pause new bookings to focus on delivering the backlog of pending orders. The company aims to ensure that existing customers receive their vehicles promptly before reopening bookings.
Specifications and Features
Under the hood, the Lexus LM 350h is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder self-charging hybrid engine that delivers a combined power output of 246 bhp and 239 Nm of torque, paired with an eCVT gearbox. The vehicle also features Lexus’ E-Four all-wheel-drive system, which includes a 134 kW motor on the front axle and a 40 kW motor on the rear.
The LM 350h is equipped with a range of luxury features designed to enhance passenger comfort and safety. These include:
- A digital inside rearview mirror
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Dynamic radar cruise control
- Lane departure alert with steering assist
- Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
- Automatic high beams
- Safe Exit Assist (SEA)
Market Response and Future Outlook
While the suspension of bookings may disappoint some potential buyers, Lexus India is committed to resolving supply challenges and meeting customer expectations. The company has stated that it is actively working with suppliers to improve production timelines.
Industry analysts suggest that the LM 350h’s popularity reflects a growing trend toward luxury hybrid vehicles in India, as consumers increasingly seek environmentally friendly options without compromising on comfort or performance.
