The Chinese embassy in Russia has labeled the United States of America as the world’s actual threat, publishing a tweet from its foreign ministry spokeswoman Lijian Zhao that reads, “Never forget real threat to the world.”
This comes a day after the UN Security Council’s 15-member body voted on a draft resolution in which the US and its allies condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine “in the strongest terms.”
While the West, led by the United States and its allies, agreed on Saturday to slap the most severe financial sanctions yet on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, China has adopted a different approach.
“Never forget who is the real threat to the world,” the Chinese embassy in Russia said in Russian on Saturday, retweeting an image published by its foreign ministry spokesperson Lijian Zhao on February 23 headlined USA Bombing List: The Democracy World Tour.
The picture, which listed the countries that the US attacked or invaded after WWII ended, highlighted that the countries represented approximately one-third of the world’s population.
According to the embassy, the US began 201 armed conflicts in 153 regions around the world between 1945 and 2001, accounting for 81 percent of all armed conflicts in the world.
The embassy in another tweet further accused the US of “pouring oil” on the flame while “accusing others of not doing their best to put out the fire”. The embassy called this behaviour “irresponsible and immoral.”
Since Russia launched its invasion late last week, the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other allies have progressively increased the severity of their sanctions.
This comes a day after the UN Security Council’s 15-member body voted on a draft resolution in which the US and its allies condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine “in the strongest terms.”
The vote, which obtained 11 votes in favour, was abstained by China, India, and the United Arab Emirates. The resolution was blocked because Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council and the President for the month of February, exercised its veto.
