Ukraine launched a swarm of drones that targeted Novolipetsk Steel’s (NLMK.MM) facility in the Lipetsk region of western Russia early Sunday.
According to a company spokesperson, the steelmaker sustained no serious damage from the attack. Governor Igor Artamonov also confirmed that nine drones were intercepted over the steel mill, causing only additional welding work to be necessary.
Kyiv neither confirms nor denies these attacks officially, but asserts that the targeted facilities support Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, making them legitimate military targets.
NLMK refutes any collaboration with the defense ministry, stating that its Russian operations do not produce military-grade heavy steels nor supply the military.
Russia’s defense ministry previously reported that overnight, air defense systems intercepted 36 Ukrainian-launched drones targeting various regions in southwest Russia, including Lipetsk.
