Iconic footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has rubbish talk of following the footpath of legendary counterpart Pepe by announcing his retirement from the Portuguese national team anytime soon.
Ronaldo, who continued to be the Portuguese captain and highest goalscorer, has affirmed his intention to continue to play for Portugal at the top level until he sees no way ahead.
The team captain said his focus is entirely on participating and winning the Nations League with Portugal, adding that rumors about his retirement are surging up from the media.
He added that all reports about his retirement now only illuminate from the press, stressing that, “It never crossed my mind that my cycle at the national team had come to an end. Quite the opposite, it gave me even more motivation to continue to be honest.”
Ronaldo disclosed that his intention remains to win the Nations League with Portugal once again, and his focus is only on the game ahead as they prefer an opener with Croatia on Thursday before hosting Scotland on Thursday.
He further added “Until the end of my career, I will always have the mindset that I will be a starter.
Ronaldo was full of praise for the Portuguese National team coach Roberto Martinez, who continued to believe in him that he was a national asset to the team and was ready to pay him back for his trust.
The 39-year-old forward said he will be willing to make the biggest decision when he feels he’s no longer contributing anything to the team, and he will voluntarily retire from Professional football when the time is deemed fit.
Ronaldo currently holds the record of the highest goal-scorer for Portugal and promises to keep the momentum going as his contract with Al Nassr still remains fresh.
