Omoluabi Progressives, a caucus within the All Progressives Congress (APC) backed by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has refuted claims that Aregbesola and his loyalists are on the verge of leaving the party. This denial follows a social media post by Hon. Adabanija Kamorudeen Oladepo, a former caretaker member of the Egbedore local government area, who initially claimed that Aregbesola would announce a shift to another party.
On Sunday, Oladepo posted on Facebook, stating, “Breaking News; Rauf Aregbesola, loyalists finally pull out of APC, to announce new party soon. Details later.” However, he later recanted this statement, admitting that the news of Aregbesola’s defection was incorrect.
In a statement released by Abosede Oluwaseun, the Publicity/Organizing Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, the group clarified that the claims made by Oladepo were false. The statement emphasized that Oladepo is not an official spokesperson for the caucus and does not have the authority to make declarations on its behalf.
The statement read: “We wish to declare that the statement is not true. It is not the Omoluabi Progressives or Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola that wants to pull out of the APC. It is the other camp that wants our revered leader and members of our caucus to be declared personal non-grata and does not want us in the party anymore with their actions and inactions.”
The Omoluabi Progressives expressed their commitment to the APC and their intention to continue advocating for their political ideals. They condemned those spreading misinformation, labeling them as “mischief makers” and reaffirmed their dedication to the party’s core values of competence, courage, character, integrity, and discipline. The political landscape in Osun State remains charged as tensions rise between different factions within the APC.
Aregbesola’s supporters have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the current leadership and have been pressuring the government for a more inclusive approach.
