Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued an apology for his administration’s failure to secure an immediate release of six hostages who were later killed by Hamas on Saturday.
The death of the hostages in Gaza has resulted in widespread demonstrations across the country as Hamas issued a fresh threat of executing more hostages in their capture should a ceasefire not be agreed upon by the conflicting parties.
Netanyahu, who continued to face criticism over his handling of the hostage deal from the government and the people, has appealed to the public for calm as his administration is working towards ensuring the safe return of the captives.
The heat of the protest has been felt by the Prime Minister as protesters took their grievances outside his residence in Jerusalem, which led to an altercation between the police and the protesters, resulting in brutality on peaceful demonstrators by the Israeli police.
The death of the hostages has gathered further public dissatisfaction, with demonstrators occupying major highways in Tel Aviv as they demand the safe return of the remaining hostages held in captivity.
While pressure mounts on Netanyahu domestically, the Israeli Prime Minister is also faced with international pressure, most especially from the UK after their government announced the suspension of some arms export licenses to Israel.
Amid both international and domestic pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamas has issued a fresh warning of devastating actions should Israel make an attempt to rescue more hostages from their captives.
The peace deal between Israel and Hamas is being discussed underway, with the situation being looked into on the terms of the peace deal to secure a lasting solution to the conflict.
