The Kremlin announced on Friday that Russian intelligence services are closely analyzing the recent explosions in Lebanon, stating they will respond appropriately, according to Anadolu Agency.
“This situation is of significant interest to our intelligence agencies, and they will carry out their duties accordingly,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a press briefing in Moscow.
When asked if Russia had initiated talks with other regional powers regarding the incident, Peskov replied, “No, there have been no discussions so far.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, a series of explosions involving wireless communication devices, such as pagers and two-way radios, killed 37 people and injured more than 3,250, including women and children. Both Beirut and Hezbollah have accused Israel of orchestrating the attacks.
Reports suggest that Israel allegedly placed small explosive devices inside imported pagers before they arrived in Lebanon and remotely detonated them this week. Israel has not officially commented on the incident, although a social media post by an advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hinting at Israel’s involvement, was quickly deleted.
Many countries have condemned the pager explosions, offering support to Lebanon. Human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, have expressed concern, warning that such attacks pose a threat to civilians and violate international laws of war.
