Former national security adviser John Bolton has expressed concerns that Vice President Kamala Harris’s foreign policy approach, should she be elected, would resemble the continuation of President Biden’s current policies.
In an interview on the “Cats Roundtable” radio show, Bolton criticized the Biden administration’s handling of international issues, particularly the withdrawal from Afghanistan, which he believes projected an image of weakness to world leaders like Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. Bolton suggested that this perceived weakness was a contributing factor to the onset of the war in Ukraine.
Bolton further remarked that Harris’s potential foreign policy is an “open question,” but he predicted that her administration would be a continuation of Biden’s, which he believes would reinforce an impression of the U.S. as “weak and undependable” globally.
As Harris campaigns for the presidency following Biden’s decision to step aside, scrutiny over her foreign policy stances has intensified, especially as conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas war persist.
While Harris has maintained alignment with Biden on key foreign policy issues, including support for Ukraine and calls for a cease-fire in Gaza, Bolton’s comments reflect ongoing Republican criticism of her candidacy.
Harris, on the other hand, has aimed to carve out her own political identity, balancing continuity with Biden’s policies while promoting a message of generational leadership.
