An Iranian man in Moscow faced legal consequences for wearing a Balenciaga sweatshirt adorned with the Ukrainian flag and coat of arms, which authorities deemed as discrediting the Russian Army.
He was fined, and the court ordered the destruction of the contentious clothing. This incident underscores the complexities of navigating political symbols in the realm of fashion.
According to the court’s decision, Iranian citizen Hossin Khidari was apprehended near St. Basil’s Cathedral.
Law enforcement officers observed his sweatshirt, which prominently displayed a Ukrainian flag on the chest and a coat of arms on the sleeves. Khidari was accused of discrediting the army and subsequently brought to court for prosecution.
The day prior, in the capital city, a resident from the Moscow region was also taken into custody for wearing a pendant shaped like a trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine. The 18-year-old girl was accused of displaying “Nazi symbols” and was reported accordingly.
