Israeli Colonel Golan Vach, who previously made international headlines for his claims of witnessing atrocities during the October 7th Hamas military operation, has reportedly been severely injured in Gaza. According to Israeli media, Vach, 50, was critically wounded when a tunnel collapsed on him in the central Gaza Strip, leaving him with life-threatening injuries from a metal rod that pierced his body.
Vach, a former commander of the Israeli military’s special rescue unit, had claimed in the aftermath of the October 7th attacks that he saw decapitated babies and raped women, stories that were widely circulated in global media.
His account, particularly regarding the beheaded infants, was later challenged and refuted by other witnesses and sources. Despite this, Vach’s graphic descriptions were initially accepted and contributed to the international outcry against the attack.
Vach had told reporters during a media tour organized by the Israeli military that he had personally carried the body of a decapitated infant at Kibbutz Be’eri. However, subsequent survivor accounts indicated that no infants or toddlers were found among the dead at that site.
The casualties were reportedly limited to middle-aged or older settlers, except for adolescent twins who were taken by resistance fighters during the attack.
