Great Britain’s Hannah Cockroft continued her dominance in the T34 classification, winning her ninth career Paralympic gold medal in the 800m event at the Paris 2024 Games. The 31-year-old led home a British one-two, finishing ahead of compatriot Kare Adenegan in a time of 1:55.44.
Cockroft has now won gold in the 100m and 800m at every Paralympic Games since London 2012, and also took the 400m title in Rio 2016[2]. With 16 world titles and world records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, she is widely regarded as one of the greatest Para-athletes of all time.
The race saw Cockroft get off to a superb start in lane eight, quickly building a substantial lead which she maintained throughout the race. She crossed the line almost eight seconds ahead of silver medalist Adenegan, with the USA’s Eva Houston denying a British clean sweep by outsprinting Fabienne Andre for bronze.
Cockroft’s victory further cemented her status as the overwhelming favorite in the T34 class. Her dominant performance in Paris showcased her exceptional speed, endurance and racing tactics, making her virtually unbeatable in the 800m event.
With nine Paralympic golds, 16 world titles and numerous world records, Hannah Cockroft has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the sport of Para-athletics.
