In a recent interview with Turkish media, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Russia, Syria, and Iran to implement more effective measures to safeguard Syria’s territorial integrity following Israel’s recent airstrike on Damascus.
The Turkish leader emphasized the need for cooperation among these nations to address what he described as a significant threat posed by Israel.
Erdogan stated, “We will defend an urgent and permanent peace in Syria… Israel is the most concrete threat to regional and global peace.” He emphasized on the importance of a united front among Russia, Iran, and Syria to counteract Israeli actions that jeopardize stability in the region.
He urged these countries to take decisive steps in response to the situation, highlighting that the ongoing hostilities pose the greatest threat to Syria’s sovereignty.
The comments come in light of an Israeli airstrike that reportedly resulted in civilian casualties and targeted areas associated with Iranian influence in Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least nine civilians, including women and children, were among those killed during the attack.
The Turkish government has consistently criticized Israeli actions, framing them as detrimental to regional stability.
Erdogan’s call for enhanced cooperation among Russia, Iran, and Syria indicates Turkey’s desire to play a more active role in addressing security challenges in the region. He reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace.
