Donald Trump Jr has tested positive for Covid-19, the latest to hit the families and inner circle of the president in a succession of infections.
A spokeswoman said Trump Jr. had heard earlier this week of his condition, had no symptoms, and had been quarantined.
Trump Jr, the eldest son of the President, is now the fourth member of the Trump family to be affected by Covid. The president, the first lady, and Barron, their son, are recovering from the virus.
Since his mother, Kimberly Guilfoyle, tested positive in July, Trump Jr, 42, had managed to evade infection.
In recent months, the White House has been the site of many outbreaks, including one related to an Amy Coney Barrett case and most recently, a White House election night party with little masks and no social distance, during which several members tested positive.
More than a quarter of a million Americans are now killed by the coronavirus. Like his dad, Trump Jr has been blamed for downplaying the pandemic’s magnitude.
In October, with casualties in the United States nearing 1,000 a day in the wake of a historic surge in infections, Trump Jr told Fox News that opponents of the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic are really foolish” and said that the deaths of Covid-19 in America are “almost nothing” right now.
Several White House personnel, including Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, have tested positive for the disease in recent weeks, while six members of Congress tested positive last week.
