In a groundbreaking move, Buenos Aires’ Ministry of Education has partnered with the ETH Kipu Foundation to integrate blockchain and Ethereum technology into the high school curriculum. This initiative positions Argentina as a leader in digital education across Latin America, preparing students for the rapidly evolving tech industry.
Starting August 27, high school students in Buenos Aires will be able to participate in internships focused on blockchain technology, providing them with hands-on experience in this cutting-edge field. Additionally, an online course on Solidity, the programming language used to create Ethereum-based applications, will be offered to 500 students aged 18 and older. This course aims to equip young Argentinians with the skills to become active contributors to the Ethereum development community.
The partnership also includes a training program for 30 teachers, ensuring they are well-prepared to educate students about blockchain and Ethereum. This hybrid training initiative underscores the commitment to building a robust educational foundation in emerging technologies.
While the program is currently limited to Buenos Aires, it represents a significant advancement in Argentina’s embrace of digital innovation. Paula D., co-founder of the ETH Kipu Foundation, expressed confidence in the program’s potential impact, stating, “By integrating blockchain education into high schools, we’re empowering students to be pioneers in the tech-driven future. This initiative will create new career paths and position Argentina as a leader in the global blockchain community.”
This educational push comes amidst Argentina’s broader efforts to modernize its economy. Earlier this year, President Javier Milei removed a proposed crypto tax law from a reform package, aiming to streamline economic reforms and foster rapid growth. With the country facing a severe inflation crisis—recording one of the world’s highest inflation rates at 200%—the focus on digital assets and blockchain technology could play a crucial role in Argentina’s economic recovery.
Argentina has already emerged as one of the fastest-growing cryptocurrency markets globally, with a digital asset ownership rate of 23.5%, second only to Turkey. This new educational initiative could further solidify Argentina’s position as a key player in the global blockchain landscape.
