President Joe Biden has issued a stern warning to Hamas, stating that the group will “pay” for the killing of American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin. Biden expressed his devastation and outrage over the news of Goldberg-Polin’s death, which was confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The IDF spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, announced that Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before they could be rescued. Their bodies were recovered from tunnels in Rafah, Gaza, on Saturday. Goldberg-Polin’s family and friends had been actively campaigning for his release, meeting with various world leaders, including officials from the Biden administration.
In response to the tragic news, President Biden stated, “Make no mistake, Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes. We will keep working around the clock for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages.” He described the situation as both tragic and reprehensible, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to securing the release of other hostages still held by Hamas.
Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed her condolences, stating that her prayers are with Goldberg-Polin’s loved ones during this difficult time. She condemned Hamas as an “evil terrorist organization,” reinforcing the administration’s stance against the group.
The death of Hersh Goldberg-Polin highlights the ongoing crisis surrounding hostages taken during the October 7 attacks by Hamas, which resulted in numerous individuals being abducted. The Biden administration has faced increasing pressure to secure the release of these hostages while navigating the complexities of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
