Azhar Siddique Challenges Unlawful Detention of PTI Leader in Lahore High Court
Saleem Sarwar Jaura, the district president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Gujrat, has found a powerful advocate in Azhar Siddique, who has filed a petition on behalf of Jaura’s wife, Ume Rubab, in the Lahore High Court. The petition challenges the legality of Jaura’s detention, which was ordered by Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Safdar Virk on August 21.
Constitutional Rights at Stake: Azhar Siddique Leads the Charge
Azhar Siddique, a renowned lawyer who also represents former Prime Minister Imran Khan, argues that Jaura’s detention is a blatant violation of constitutional rights. The petition names the interior ministry, Punjab government through the chief secretary, Gujrat DC, district police officer, and the station house officer of Civil Lines police as respondents.
Family and party sources revealed that Saleem Sarwar Jaura was apprehended from his Gujrat residence shortly before a PTI rally in Islamabad, which was later canceled. The sudden and allegedly unlawful detention has sparked outrage within the PTI and raised questions about the use of detention orders as a tool of political repression.
