According to a YouGov survey, 45% of respondents in Germany oppose the transfer of Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, while 33% support the transfer.
The remaining 22% are undecided. The poll, commissioned by Die Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA), also showed that among supporters of the German Green Party, 50% support the transfer while 25% are opposed. Ukraine has been requesting the tanks from Germany for several months.
Russia has argued that Western weapons deliveries to Ukraine prolong the conflict and have warned that NATO member states are becoming increasingly involved in the hostilities, potentially leading to a military confrontation between the bloc and Russia.
