US member of the House of Representatives representing the Republican party, George Santos has announced his temporary stepping down from the two congress committees he was part of.
Santos made the declaration on Tuesday following rounds of discussion which has been aired and spread virally over a host of ethics issues.
Santos has been a subject of criticism as prosecutors continue to Investigate his personal and campaign finances, lies about his resume, and family background.
Following the widely circulated criticism against him, Santos in a statement disclosed that he wanted to channel his energy towards serving his people and constituency without any iota of distraction.
Santos in his statement said that he will only return to the committee after clearing his name, as now his focus is only on serving his constituency and the great people of America.
FEC in their letter to the campaign in the previous week stated that should Santos’s campaign be found of knowingly and willfully made any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation on his paperwork, then he could face criminal charges.
