Three Russian military personnel were killed on Monday when a Ukrainian drone that was shot down crashed near a base in the Saratov region of Russia, according to Russian news agencies citing the defence ministry.
The base, located near the city of Saratov and approximately 730 km (450 miles) southeast of Moscow, was attacked on December 5 in what Russia claims was a Ukrainian drone attack on two Russian air bases that day.
Ukraine has not publicly claimed responsibility for the attacks but has said that such incidents are “karma” for Russia’s invasion.
According to the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, the incident did not damage any civil infrastructure facilities.
Unofficial reports on Russian and Ukrainian social media claim that some planes were destroyed, although the Russian defence ministry stated that aviation equipment was not damaged.
