Russian President, Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered the deployment of warships equipped with new hypersonic cruise missiles toward the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
The missile is described as the first of its kind in the world following a hypersonic weapon race between Russia, China, and the US.
This was disclosed in a video conference between President Putin and his top military officials which includes Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Commander of the warship, Igor Krokhmal.
President Putin described that the ship named “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” is armed with the latest Zircon hypersonic weapon which has no comparison.
President Putin extends his greetings to his military officers and wished the crew of the shipping success as they are on the verge of service to their motherland for the good and benefit of all.
Russia’s Defense Minister disclosed that the embedded newly launched hypersonic warship would sail to the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea.
The new Zircon is described as Shoigu, a weapon capable of delivering devastating strikes against the enemy either at sea or on land, as no defence missile could hold it down.
The missiles can fly nine times the speed of sound and have a range of over 1,000 km, Sergei Shoigu indicated.
