President Putin on Thursday signed the degree to increase the number of Russian forces in the face of a prolonged war with Ukraine.
According to the decree, the size of the Russian armed forces will be increased from 1.9 million to 2.4 million, which means that the number of forces will be increased to more than 2 million, with 1.15 million as service members.
Contemplation to the reason for the increase in the military forces remains unknown, as stipulations had it that, the Russians are suffering a huge military defeat in Ukraine which had left the troop demoralized, while other has it that, President Putin is preparing for a long term invasion outside.
Source has it that, the last time Russia’s military size was increased was in 2017 when the total number of combatants was fixed at 1.1 million from a total forces headcount, including non-combatants of 1.9 million.
As the war set to enter into its 7 months, no actual veracity as to the number of casualties suffered from both sides, with Moscow saying, over 1,351 troops have been shot down, while Ukraine has it that, the overall casualties suffered by the Russians is around 45,000 since the invasion.
Report from the west accounts for over 10,000 casualties on the side of the Russians, with no fixed account for the Ukrainian troops apart from the 9,000 reported from Kyiv.
The decree did not stipulate how the increase is to be achieved or how it was to be carried out, instruction was just given on the increment of the military budget.
