A petition by a group named the Civic Hub had circulated online, calling for a petition to kick Russia out of the UN Security Council, which stands as the most powerful organ of the UN.
The petition is hashtagged #unrussiaUN# which is to call for the removal of Russia as a country from both the Security Council and as a Member of the UN.
According to the group, they said they have a historic chance to put an end to the biggest swindle in the history of international politics, which is Russiaโs illegal membership of the UN.
We have to โunRussia the UNโ Right to veto, and that Russia doesnโt have a right to kill, the group claimed.
The group condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine as inhumane at the highest, and the protection given to them as a member of the UN Security Council gave them the power to veto any move against them.
A report from the group stated that, the Russian state violated Article 4 of the UN, and that Russia is neither a part of the Security Council nor a member of the UN as they didnโt go through the procedure of being admitted into the UN.
According to Article 23 of the UN charter, Russia is not a permanent member of the UN Security Council, as the UNโs current charter says that the Soviet Union still exists, with Russia not mentioned altogether.
They call on the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, and the UN DGACM to bring documents certifying the Russian Federationโs membership in the UN, and if such documents couldnโt be provided, they demanded an end to their membership in the UN.
Only peace-loving nations can be part of the UN as stipulated in Article 4 of the UN charter, and Russia should be removed on account of its aggressive war in Ukraine.
The petition has gained over 90,000 signatures so far out of the 150,000 signatures needed for their petition to be put into consideration.
Should they be successful, their petition could remove Russiaโs UN veto power, and restore peace and order to the international community.
