Chris Hipkins, 44 and a leader of the labour party has been sworn in as New Zealand PM after the surprise resignation of Jacinda Ardern last week.
Hipkins was sworn in front of New Zealand’s governor-general’s office, the representative of the United Kingdom’s King Charles who is the country’s head of state in the capital, Wellington.
Carmel Sepuloni become the first person of island descent to hold the position of deputy PM after he was sworn in.
According to Hipkins, being New Zealand’s PM is the biggest privilege and responsibility of his life.
Hipkins says that he is energized and excited about the challenges ahead.
