The embattled Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, will not attend the funeral of a friend and supporter, Vivianne Westwood, after being denied permission to leave the Landon prison.
Vivianne died at age 81 on December 29. She was a British fashion designer, activist, and vocal supporter of Assange.
Assange is currently in Landon Maximum Prison and has been fighting his extradition to the US to face espionage charges since 2012.
According to the report issued by Westwood’s family in UK time, their appeal on Assange’s behalf to attend the funeral had been denied.
Westwood’s family accused the UK authorities of inhumane treatment of Julian Assange up to this point and have called the decision to deny their appeal on Assange unsurprising and unjust.
The details of Westwood’s funeral haven’t been made public and are thought to be private.
Many people have been fighting the extradition of Assange from the UK to the US, including the Australian PM Anthony Albanese.
