Following promises from two nations to provide planes, Russia has vowed to destroy any fighter airplanes delivered to Ukraine by its allies.
On Friday, Slovakia pledged some MiG-29 aircraft to Kiev, becoming the second nation in NATO to do so after Poland.
Slovakia stopped using its fleet of planes last year and grounded them.
Modern jets have been requested by Ukraine from Western nations, however due to lengthy training requirements, these are only considered as long-term solutions.
One year after Russia’s invasion, it views additional aircraft as crucial for its defenses and potential counterattacks.
The MiG-29, a Soviet-era jet that Ukrainian pilots are qualified to operate, is one of the aircraft that other Nato nations are considering supplying.
Moscow’s “special military operation,” as it refers to the war, won’t be affected by the aircraft, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who denounced the intentions.
They would simply “create more problems for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” he claimed.
The official continued, “Of course, during the special military operation, all this equipment will be susceptible to destruction.
