The council of the Netherlands city is promoting a digital dissuasion campaign that targets men in the UK between the ages of 18 and 35.
The campaign is a part of efforts to repair Amsterdam’s sleazy image as the most liberal party city in Europe.
The videos, which are usually frank, show young males stumbling in the street while being detained by police, having their fingerprints taken, and getting their mug shots.
When consumers in Britain enter terms like “stag party,” “cheap hotel,” or “pub crawl Amsterdam,” web advertisements underlining the dangers of excessive drug and alcohol use will be triggered.
The message is clear: a long weekend in Amsterdam may leave you with the wrong memories, and the escape you seek in the city’s reputation as a party center might leave you with unavoidable convictions.
Return tickets to Amsterdam are only £50 (or €57; $62) for Britons.
