The president of the self-ruling island of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen on Monday disclosed that the island has secured close diplomatic relations with new Czech Republic president-elect Petr Pavel despite China’s warning.
Information provided by the Taiwanese presidential spokesperson Lin Yu-chan indicated that leaders of both countries agreed to their continuing relationship.
Quoting the president, spokesman Lin said “Based on these cordial ties, the government of Taiwan looked forward to deepening exchanges and cooperation with the Czech Republic in key areas, including semiconductor design, talent cultivation in cutting-edge technologies, and supply chain restructuring.”
The formal declaration of the relationship between Taiwan and the Czech Republic is perceived as a threat to Beijing’s stance, which remains definite that China remains a part and parcel of her territories.
China had warned against forming diplomatic ties with Taiwan, creating an outburst between them and the US over Speaker Pelosi’s visits to the island.
