On Monday, a Pakistani court issued arrest warrants for the country’s incarcerated former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, in two distinct cases.
The accountability court in Islamabad granted the warrants at the behest of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), accusing Khan of illicitly acquiring and selling state gifts and receiving significant funds and valuable land in 2020 from a property tycoon to establish an educational institution.
The court mandated the enforcement of the arrest warrant “in accordance with the law.” Khan, already in jail for months in the “cypher case” related to exposing state secrets, contends that the case involves diplomatic communications as part of a U.S. conspiracy against his government.
Having lost a vote of confidence in April and facing a five-year public office ban, Khan’s sentence was suspended by the Islamabad High Court, leading to his release.
