The Chinese government has advised the Czech Republic to warn its president-elect Petr Pavel off forming diplomatic relationships with Taiwan, saying it’s an attempt to undermine his red line.
Replying to the phone call between the Taiwan president and the new president-elect of the Czech Republic, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Tuesday disclosed that, the call is a symbolic breach of China as the owner of Taiwan Islam.
Mao Ning stressed that the Czech president-elect had acted in “defiance of China’s repeated dissuasion and complaints, AMD trampled on China’s red line.”
Mao Ning said that the act is against the One China principle, calling for Immediate disassociation from the alliance to avoid damage to their peaceful relations.
The Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala said the country would at every need mitigate anything that will bring harm to their relationship, saying their policy towards China remains the same, and that everybody in the country respects the one-China policy.
“As a sovereign state, it is us who decide whom we call or whom we meet. We traditionally have good economic, educational, and research relations with democratic Taiwan. It is also necessary to respect that China is an important Asian trading partner. We continue in our tradition and we are stressing the need to protect common democratic values,” Petr said.
China remains defiant about Taiwan as part of her territories, saying it won’t welcome foreign relationships with the island.
