Yemi Osinbajo, the Nigerian’s vice president stated yesterday that accepting a position of authority should not be cause for celebration but rather should be viewed as an invitation to serve God and the populace.
Osinbajo made this statement while serving as the special guest of honor during the enthronement ceremony for the Most Reverend (Dr.) Michael Akinwale, the new Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, at the Methodist Cathedral of Unity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sir (AVM) Kayode Beckley (ret.) was presented as the new Methodist Church Diocesan and Archdiocesan Lay President at the church service, according to a statement by Mr. Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice President.
“Indeed, the office means that your voice must be heard and your leadership seen where there is injustice, deprivation or lack,” Osinbajo said addressing the new Archbishop.
He added: “The high call of service to the gospel of Christ is a ministry to all, whether they be amongst the membership of the Methodist Church or even those of other denominations and beliefs.”
