Three All Progressives Congress attorneys have been released after being detained by the Rivers State Police Command on Friday evening in a hotel room where they were allegedly working on Tonye Cole’s election petitions that would later be submitted to the tribunal.
Nevertheless, the Rivers State APC chapter announced late Saturday that the lawyers and five other support workers had been released through its spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju. Unfortunately, it was learned that the police had kept the laptops and election-related paperwork that the lawyers needed for their work.
According to Nwaju, “The support staff was granted conditional bail while the lawyers were granted bail on self-recognition.”
Cole, the Rivers APC candidate for governor in the 2023 elections, who also announced the lawyers’ release, vowed to stay at the State CID until the documents are retrieved from the police.
