The President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed concern over the country’s low revenue generation and reliance on loans for infrastructure development. He made these comments during an address to mark his 64th birthday in Abuja.
Lawan praised the government’s efforts in infrastructure development but emphasized the need to improve revenue collection and sustainability.
The Senate President stated that the upper chamber would engage with revenue-generating agencies to increase the country’s earnings and also suggested reviewing waivers and concessions granted to corporate entities to boost government revenue and the economy.
He also noted that the Ninth National Assembly has successfully completed its legislative agenda which covered areas such as security, economy, revenue generation, education, and constitution amendment.
